the polls do not prevent multiple answers, and that's why they'll never be used to count votes for the Presidential election.
The polls are meant for entertainment and non-critical surveying purposes. I absolutely agree that no critical decisions should be based solely on the results of the polls, but I do believe that they can be helpful in obtaining and displaying generally accurate feedback on the issues polled.
Your point underscores the fact that when people view the results, they must keep in mind that the data can be misrepresented by someone with malicious intentions. That said, I do have faith in our membership as a whole that we're honest enough that no one would spend the time or effort to intentionally skew the polls.
As another solution, I can produce a poll facility that is tamper-proof, but that will require logging in with user-names and password. I didn't do it this way to begin with because the polls were never meant to have decisions based on them and I didn't want to hassle people with having to create accounts and logging in every time they wanted to answer a poll.
However, if a different, tamper-proof surveying facility is something the board might find useful, I can certainly produce one. Thoughts?
