Grant it they aren't as dramatic as yours but here are some winter train photos that I have taken. When I get a chance I like to get out and photograph some trains. I have especially been concentrating on the EMD F40Cs that you photographed. With new MP-36s arriving all the time the F40Cs are being retired. I have heard that 2 are already out of service. There were only 14 of them ever built and they are very unique with their Stainless grills on the side. I have photos of all 12 of the 14. One of the ones that I didn't photograph, I understand, caught fire and is now gone.
I found your posts very interesting even though they are NCR. I find it interesting, on occasion to see what other things interest people other than chips. Also getting an insight of the backgrounds of some of my fellow chippers is interesting.
Living in Chicago this is a great area for railfanning and railfan photography. I would think that LV and NV are good also. I have read of some good places to go watch trains without having to go very far from Vegas. There is just so much else to do out there and so little time when I have gone that Trainwatching just doesn't hit high on my list. Although, like I have said, I think it would be interesting. Maybe some day I will get to take an extended trip where I can take a little time to see the rest of the area around Las Vegas.
For those who are interested there are some interesting sights for railfanning and railfan photography issues.
Yahoo Groups http://www.groups.yahoo.com has many. Try Illinirail for info about RRs around Chicago. Digitalrail(?) is another. There are numerous groups for different railroads and regions. Search their database for a good group for railroads near you. UP, CNW, MILW, WC, are some that I have checked out. Also, http://www.railpictures.net is good. I check that every few days and brows through the catagory of Newest Additions. It is along the left hand column of the page near the bottom. The photos you posted would probably be of great interest there. They do require scans of 1024x though. Illinirail would probably find them very interesting also.
I hope the other fellow railfan chippers out there enjoy these.... I took them last winter after getting a Nikon D100 DSLR.
