Question 1: Of course not.
Question 2: It's numbers of rooms occupied not the cost that helps the Club. I don't know what all of the considerations are that go into a host hotel's decision as to what to give the Club for it's patronage. However, if a lot of conventioneers stay at their hotel there is the potential of them gambling, eating, gambling, going to shows, gambling that hotels/casinos hope for when they book large groups.
Your 3rd sentence (not a question): It's the only way to get a hotel/casino's attention--convention floor space is very expensive, if they give it to us free or at a reduced rate, they have to make it up somewhere else.
The convention chairpeople can give the substantive reasons why it's good for the Club if members stay at the Riviera. Briefly, it has been explained to the membership many times that based on the room occupancy by Club members during the convention week determines what givebacks (comps, if you will) the Club gets. For example, inexpensive or free convention floor space; comped rooms to the Club (used by Club officers and volunteers) based on the daily occupancy of Club members.
Hopefully the Convention Chairpersons will, again, explain why we should stay at the host hotel/casino. If I am speaking out of turn on this issue, I apologize. Chuck
