Dear Chipboard,
A few weeks ago I made a post regarding a trade gone awry and ending up with myself being left without chips that were apparently lost or stolen in the mail.
I appreciate all the input from my fellow chippers. The overwhelming response was that the person mailing the chips in a trade (As well as a sale) should be the one responsible to insure delivery and that replacing chips that were lost in the mail should be a given if this were to happen.
Well, after over 2 months of waiting, I finally learned today what my trading partner has decided to do. I received an email today stating that he was sorry that the chips did not arrive and that since he was not in a financial position to replace the chips there was nothing more he could do. By the way, we are talking about $60 worth of current face value chips.
He feels completely unresponsable for the chips as he states he has proof that the chips were mailed, even though they were mailed uninsured and without delivery confirmation.
In subsequent emails he actually told me that if I had wanted insurance, I should have asked for it. So my question is this?
Do I have an ethical responsibility to post this persons name on the Chip Board to warn others of his activity? If I were doing trading I surely would want to know that the person I was dealing with had this attitude towards replacing lost chips.
What would you do in this situation?
