Check out Josh's original link. The guy has closed the auction due to a "Error in the listing"
A couple thoughts. I think the methods you took to combat the theft of your image and abuse of your FTP space is excellent. I have known others to have done the same thing in similarly embarassing ways. However that specific extent that you went might have been over the top. I would also note, that when I checked the auction last night, Yeah, you warned not to look and I looked. I have been disturbed ever since and maybe scared for life. Anyways, I noticed the address to the photo (right click on image and select properties)and it directed to your name and website. Thus you can be identified as the culprite in the changing of photos. Do you use that same identity in your eBay auctions? I seem to recall that you do. So, I have this question. If the original auctioneer here were to complain to eBay, while you might have a case against him for the theft of your image and bandwidth, would he have a case against you for the nature of the image that you put into the link? Being that you did it knowing that it would display on eBay on his ad. I just wonder if eBay will take any actions against you for your actions because of the adult nature of the image you used.
As a photographer, I would actually think it is a good idea to make up a graphic that you can use, and resize as necessary that declares that an image is stolen. Put something embarassing in the graphic but make it, at most, PG rated. Call attention to the fact that the image being viewed, or at least the one that used to be there, was stolen and that you have removed it to protect your rights. Let the world know the ethics of the person they are about to buy from. By having something made up and on hand, when this happens and you find out about it, you can react quickly to it. It would be a quick lesson to image thieves that they could get burned and have their actions be exposed. Maybe when a few of them have some of their reputations publicly tarnished they will learn.
