Same thing happened to me, Doug. I sent $100 worth of chips to Portugal, via Global Priority. Despite my return address on the box, they never arrived.
Without hesitation, but with regret, I then returned the purchaser's $100 bill, but this time sent it registered. It never arrived.
After several months had passed, I filed a claim with the post office. That was 9 months ago, and the claim - which the P.O. kindly informed me was limited to $41.50, even though it was registered (how in heck did they come up with THAT number?!) - has yet to be paid.
I'm now out $236.50 (including the cost of postage). And holding. Fortunately, the purchaser is a very understanding collector.
