I was wondering if the readers of the Chipboard can help me with a quandary I am in involving a trade. About 2 months ago I completed a trade of about chips with someone outside the US. I sent my chips Global Priority (At additional cost) specifically since there was a tracking number on each box in case there was any problems, even though I must admit they were not insured. My chips arrived at their destination as expected within a few days. The chips that were shipped to me however have still not arrived after 6 weeks and after several contacts with my trading partner, we are now thinking they have been lost or stolen. I do not doubt that they were actually sent even though this is the first trade with this particular person. That brings me to my question.
What is the expected course of action that is taken when this happens?
Since it is unchartered territory for me, should I expect that replacement chips be sent? The chips that were to be sent to me had a face value of $58 US and are all current chips so they can actually be replaced if needed. The only time this has happened to me before is when I sold several chips that got lost in the mail and I offered to replace the chips for free. Should I expect to eat 1/2 of the trade value and split the loss with the sender? Or should I just chalk it up to bad luck and expect nothing? I leave it up to the good folks of the chipboard to tell me the proper Etiquette in dealing with my problem.
