Re: Can We Have A Group Hug Now?

"I decided long ago that if I get outbid, then I can wait because another one will come along."["/b]

Good Point. I have taken the same position. It does burn a little when you get your hopes up because you are sitting as the high bidder for 5 days on an auction then you are watching at the end, I will sit there and keep hitting recycle (reload) every 10 or 15 seconds, then you notice with 35 second left somoene outbids you. I will often try and slip in another bid.

When I don't win, I get up and walk off the burn, so to speak. I can't say it is anger, it is more dissappointment. However, another chip will come along. Often it might be a couple months later when some of the buying flurry over a new release or other circumstance has worn off. I got into a bidding contest on a Burns 100th $5 chip from Caesers LV. I paid about $28 for it. It was one of the first chips I ever bought on eBay. I thought it was high but OK since I read that the chip was worth $30. Since then I have seen it frequently for around $15 to $18. I have picked up a few more to hold on to for as little as $12. Tyson Holyfield II $10 MGM. I had tried numerous times to get that one to be snipped in the end or outright outbid. Prices would sell for around $30 Which I wasn't willing to pay anyways. I don't say it was an unfair price, I am just reluctant, on my budget, to pay that much for a chip. I finally found one for $9.99 with reasonable shipping.

The lesson I have learned is this. As someone said in an earlier thread, eBay has changed the collecting world by putting more items in the market and bringing more buyers in, that otherwise would have been scrounging local flea markets and yard sales.... Items that usually would have been tossed or left in the bottom of a drawer because it was too difficult, costly or time consuming to get them out into the market where a collector or buyer might want it.

Point being, there will always be other offerings. Often you can get your chip for a lot less by just being patient.
