Re: TEACH YOUR CHILDREN
In Response To: TEACH YOUR CHILDREN ()

Funny Mark! Lost this hair years ago & you say collecting is relaxing. I have been collecting since I was about 11. Old bottles. Then postcards of casinos. Then dice. Then chips. Yes in that order- dice first. Then everything else & still have tons of it! At one time got into all kinds of postcards & then into old soda & gas advertising signs. Now collecting old Santa Barbara stuff, postcards, bottles, etc. & just lots of antiques I like. Mission furniture. Desert Sands pottery.

What other things do some of you collect?

I have always tried to get kids into collecting. Years ago I got the kids I grew up with into bottles. Many of us used to go digging. I still dig when I can- like today!
Collecting keeps kids out of trouble. Keeps them busy learning something of interest & history is usually involved.
I have Tammy's Norwegian girls into slot cards, room keys & chips now. Our Sarah has made great friends with Steve Bedo's daughter Sarah. Collectors seem to have that friendship bond. Just because kids aren't old enough to gamble does not mean they can't enjoy collecting. We were at a casino & I asked for a set of slot cards at one window while Sarah asked at another. She got cards I got told no we can't give them away!
For Tiffany's kindergarden class we made a display of 100 chips for "hundred day". The kids loved it & I got to tell a bit about collecting. We kept the display intact for her to keep. Never know what it might amount to in years from now. I didn't put any Bugsy chips on there though.
