I've been monitoring this discussion about shipping charges and what should happened when more than one auction is won. I have stayed on the sidelines but wanted to share my opinion and had a couple of questions...
I always try to seek out a seller who has multiple items that I am interested in and try to win more than one auction so that I can save $$$ on the shipping charges. If the seller does not indicate he is willing to combine shipping, I NEVER assume that he will do so. I ALWAYS get confirmation from the seller before bidding on the auction.
If I were to sell multiple items, I would combine shipping and feel that is fair thing to do. With that said, I feel it is the seller's right to not combine shipping and treat each auction seperately. I however choose NOT to conduct business with people that practice business this way.
Here are my two questions.
1. If a seller is not misleading the public with his auctions, is it really "unethical" to the charge posted shipping charges for each auction won? While we might think it's not "fair", I wonder if this would fall under the classification of "ethics". I might be wrong here and look forward to what others think.
2. Where do we draw the line? For example. What if I won 20 auctions from a seller. Let's say the seller says "$1.50 for first auction won and $.50 shipping on all additional items". (THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE). In this example, I am charged $1.50 for the first auction and $9.50 for the other ninteen auction to a total of $11.00 in shipping charges for 20 chips. Can I complain? I agreed to buy all of those auctions but yet feel the $11 is not a "fair" amount to pay. Would this seller be unethical???
