Robert,
I agree...The very rare items will always be rare and command very high prices whether it be at Sothebys or on Ebay. Because of Ebay, many items we thought were in short supply are not. Just because of having a world wide venue to buy from. Most rare items are known to have a finite amount and collectors keep track of who has them. That will not change. The intermediate items that were thought to be in short supply, in many cases have been identified as quite an abundant item when sellers world wide offer them up for sale.
I still think my point that is unique to chips at this point in time is valid. Many of the very rare ones and even the intermediate ones will be sold into collections and not emerge on the market again for many years. This creates demand and higher prices. I am seeing that with some of the high dollar ashtrays. I know that some of my one of a kinds(or at least at this point) are not going anywhere for many years. They will pass to children that are interested in the collecting field. I think it is so sad that a parent is not fortunate enough to have a child interested in keeping a world class collection perpetuating. I know of a couple large collections that are selling off for that reason. It is sad.
