I assume the starting bid was $4.99 and you entered a proxy bid of $15.00. It would show you as high bidder at $4.99. Your proxy bid is not displayed to the world, just what the current high bid is, in this case $4.99.

At the end of the auction and the other guy bid $15.01 it took you out because he had met the bid increment levels many times, between $4.99 and $15.00, thus his $15.01 bid would prevail over your hidden proxy bid of $15.00.
