gotta agree with pete, the file size is 175K which is fine for broadband but a little slow for the dialup folk. Also, the picture size itself it 1032x(somthing). this is larger than some people set their screen resolution so it would take up the whole screen and still not show the entire picture.
You can continue to scan at this size, it gives a nice level of detail, and then reduce the picture size.
You might want to check out microsoft's powertoy for resizing pictures (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp). One of the application is an image resizer. When you are using the windows explorer, or my computer you can select the file and right-click. One of the menu items will be "resize image" and then it will bring up a dialog box. This will resize in-place or create a second file of the new picture.
