Over the years I’ve participated in lots of discussions regarding what percentage of chip sales are represented by eBay and Jackpot transactions. It’s clearly a statistic that can’t be measured with a great degree of accuracy, but I think that maybe we could come up with a decent enough estimate that some concepts might be affirmed or debunked.
I’m really just interested in percentages, and I won’t ask for chip totals, as I don’t feel that’s appropriate here (or anywhere, frankly), so we can’t come up with a weighted average to lend a little “science” to the project. I do think, however, that a trend might emerge.
Here’s the answers I’d like to see…
1) What percentage of OVERALL chip sales do you feel take place on eBay and Jackpot (not including casino cage sales or gaming table pick-ups)?
2) What percentage of sales of OBSOLETE chips do you feel take place on eBay and Jackpot (not including casino cage sales)?
3) What percentage of your collection was acquired directly from casinos?
4) What percentage of your collection was acquired through eBay or Jackpot auctions?
5) What percentage of your collection was acquired through direct sales from a dealer?
6) What percentage of your collection was acquired through trades?
I’ll start….
1) 60% - 70%
2) 75% - 80%
3) 10%
4) 25%
5) 62%
6) 3%
Let’s see where this goes… it might be interesting!
