with the aid of a "regular" black light. Even the junk light bulbs sold during Holloween.
You really would be hard pressed to miss the codes, unless your supply of chips consists of the one version that is blank, i.e., void of codes.
The codes are printed words, and the words appear multiple times on each face of the chip. The words are:
"LUXOR"
"NILE"
"PYRAMID"
"EGYPT"
"TUT"
"CIRCUS CIRCUS"
The seventh security code is no code, i.e., no secret printing.
The "security codes" only appear on $1 chips. According to the 2002 Convention Guest Speaker (I keep forgetting his name) from CHIPCO, where the security code is different on two sides of a chip, it was not done on purpose. However, it does seem to happen quite a bit.
I also recall him saying that it was CHIPCO's action to use the security code, not something that the Luxor had specifically requested.
Periodically the Luxor destroys very worn chips and does a re-order. The re-order tends to be of one security code, a different one each re-order. You can go to the Luxor cage and buy a rack (or two or three) of $1 chips and then go through them. The cleanest ones tend to be the most recent re-order version.
I have visited the Luxor, bought a rack of $1's, gone off to the Sports Book and black lighted each chip looking for different versions and returned the extras to the cage for another rack.
I hope this helps,
Jim Follis
