Some good points. Part of what I was trying to say is that there are costs that run so deep into the operation of a casino, Costs that the average gambler wouldn't begin to know or understand, that make the elimination of coins a more and more attractive proposition. One that as one person mentioned has made a huge difference in the profitability of some casinos.
I don't know so much about the delivery of coins though. I could be wrong but from what I have seen, and my own habits, I think most of the coins circulate internally within the casino. I don't tend to take buckets of coins with me when I leave. Judging from my group of friends that I go out there with every year, I don't see them leaving with quantities of coins either. We usually cash in when we leave. Leaving the coins there to have to be recounted, rolled, bagged and stored. Except for the rare situations like one time at Barbary Coast, where I dumped my Margarita in the trash and used the huge souvenir glass because I couldn't find a slot cup. Incidentally another reason that TITO is attractive. You don't have to deal with the nuissance of all those coins. I had hit Austin Powers for over 1200 nickles and didn't have time to stand at the cage to cash them in. The margarita glass was all that I had to carry the quantity of coins away. I put them into the Margarita Glass and carefully put it in my backpack. Then carried them out to the Shuttle to Orleans and cashed them there.
There is the issue, I suppose, where people probably bring more coin in than they do take out. Bringing in your change jar etc. I have a motorized coin bank at home that sorts my coins. I would roll the quarters and nickles and just put dimes and pennies in coffee cans. When traveling to LV I would take a bunch of rolls of quarters and nickles with me. I don't do that anymore as there is less and less value to it since more and more machines don't even have coin slots. Around here, (Illinois/Indiana) the boats all use tokens. Thus they don't take coins either. Hollywood-Aurora,IL is installing TITO printers. Thus, except for tolls for the tollway to get to Aurora, there isn't any value to be keeping my change. I would think though that the number of coins that comes in makes up for more than what walks out. I could be wrong on that though.
Where you make your best point though is the amount of money that is tied up in the hoppers of all those thousands of machines. By using TITO it would certainly free up a lot of cash and put a higher percentage of money actually in play. For the casino that means bigger profits since they have the % edge to begin with. Just like the post that I made re: redemtion notices, the more money that a casino can free up and put into actual play, that they don't have to sit on or have in reserve, the better for them.
