Terry; Even if you had bid higher ... there is no assurance that your competitor did not have an even higher bid entered in his software program ... and you still would have lost out.

Personally, I like the five-minute rule. I think it's fairer to the buyer and to the seller, but that's not how the ebay game is currently played.
