Hi Kerry,
I will try to answer your questions as honestly as possible .
The rooms at the Main Street Station are far superior to the Fremont and/or the California Club. If the room prices are close -there is ONLY one choice - Main Street Station.
For food, one of my favorite places to eat dinner is the Redwood Bar and Grill in the California Club. The prime rib is excellent as is the porterhouse house steak. The lobster tail is also a "fish" substitute is you do not care for beef.
The pub located in the Main Street station is OK. You have to sit at the bar since there are no adquate booths and/or tables. After a few beers the butt tends to get sore.
One of the finest restaurants downtown is the Binion's steakhouse located at the top of the hotel. It use to be the "Top of the Mint". It serves the finest prime rib (the Benny cut) I have EVER had. The shrimp cocktail is expensive but if you like shrimp you will not find a better one.
The service is excellent and you will have a nice view of the valley while you are dinning. It is expensive but well worth every cent.
The Golden Nugget buffet for breakfast and/or lunch can not be beat. It also is expensive but well done. Don't miss it!
In the afternoon try the shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate. It is the "best" shrimp buy in town.
Also in the afternoon the Union Plaza has entertainment in their lounge. You can sit and have a drink in comfort and enjoy the show.
I hope this helps. I have listed what I consider to be the best attractions, places to eat, etc.in downtown Las Vegas.
Best, Mr."P"
