I would like to point out my price guide "The Official US Casino Chip Price Guide" denotes if a chip is current or not. I went through great lengths on this. Its denoted by an * for the price in the 1st of 3 price columns as per condition. Many now since my last book in Sept. 2000 are obsolete.
Just because someone says the chips were destroyed its not always best to believe it 100%. I thought all the Dunes were going to be pulverized but the entire hoard of last issues, about a half million exist.
You never know when a box of old chips might show up as gaming commission rule to ask the casinos to destroy was not really enforced years ago. Say in the later 70's even. Boxes do show up of chips & the values usually go down, unless boxes of that particular chip are already known. Many old chips have gone up & remained rare for the most part for Vegas. Reno it seems that more come out & not nearly as much were destroyed or everyone up there is a pack rat.
