I just received a letter in my email this afternoon that my eBay account has been SUSPENDED. The letter said that it is for security reasons that someone may have gotten my password and compromised the security of my account.
Being concerned about the numerous reports of Spoofs here I was concerned about this. The odd thing is that the letter seemed very authentic and did not contain any links etc. The only instructions was that I respond to the email for assistance which, of course, I am reluctant to do in today's virus and worm laden environment. I decided to check a couple things so I went to My Ebay to see if there was any unusual activity on my account. NOTHING. Just an item that I am watching for a computer data disk on genealogical information. However, as I opened the MY EBAY page I got a pop-up that said something like, This account has been suspended and then went on to say that my account has been used in a way that is against eBay policies. There is NO explaination on what has been done, what I am accused of or What raised a red flag that my password had been breached.
I went to eBay's site and browsed around until I found my way to a help section. While composing a letter to eBay I went to My Ebay to look for information. The pop-up came up and has a link for assistance which was colored as visited before when I noticed it. That is probably because the link in the eBay pop-up was the same one that I was already leaving a message on.
I have yet to receive any contact from eBay since this all happened about 7 or so hours ago.
Has anyone ever had any experience with situations like this where your account has been SUSPENDED?
The only thing that I can think of that has happened recently is that I posted a couple posts here with suggestions about printing out and saving of eBay auction pages and searching completed auctions to get information that might help establish a value on certain collectable items ie. Chips.
Also, I posted a few replies to a thread about someone who has had their account compromised and received an outbid notice on an item that he didn't bid on. I posted replies about setting up a My Ebay page and suggesting that he contact eBay and also change his password immediately. I am concerned that, could these suggestions may have, somehow, violated eBay's policies? Or did my outspokeness make me a target by someone who reads this site?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
