Steven,
Consider $1 chips on Ebay. The majority of the time they sell for well over face value. At least that is the case with the common chips. Then add shipping and handling of a $1 or $2 and you are paying a preimium. Now truely obsolete $1 can fetch around book price. Low end TCR price. Of course since Ebay is an auction site the majority of chips will not fetch even low book value. That is the nature of auctions. Of course, the reverse is true as well. A bidding war gets going and even a high price chip can fetch much higher than TCR high book value.
I have seen that happen too.
My suggestion is if you are going to sell examine the current and closed auctions for the chip you are selling. Price at the middle of the range and you should be able to unload the chip.
If you are buying check the prices as well. Bid accordingly.
If your starting bid is low and you get the chip then you have have gotten a great deal. If you are willing to pay a premium for the chip, bid higher to knock out the competition.
TCR is a great reference for full retail prices for chips. Keep in mind Ebay is an auction site and bid or sell accordingly.
