If I were a crook and obtained someone's ebay password the first thing I would do is change the password. At that point I would control the ebay account, and it could not be accessed by the original (legitimate) account holder.

Another thought... cancell the credit card with which you opened the ebay account. If someone else has access to or controls the ebay account (s)he can probably get the credit card number.
