Myron; What you say may come to pass eventually, but not until the table games become electronic, like the slot machines have.
I don't think it's a matter of indifference that chip collectors don't care about what happens to token collectors. Many chip collectors also collect tokens as well. It's a matter of technology ... which is changing all the time. I recall when video slots first made their apperance and many, many slot players swore that they would never give up their reel slot machines and play against a "computer" video slot machine. Guess what is the most popular slot machines today? (Hint; It ain't reels)
It's not a matter of "many of my fellow collectors don't seem to care" ... it's a economical matter of what is more efficient for the casino operators and it's their decision to make as a business owner. I don't like the demise of tokens either, but I accept reality that the technological world is changing. Slot players on the whole are embracing the ticket-in-ticket-out system as a welcome improvement of casino operations.
As another example; Tokens are being phased out on many of the toll roads accross the country as electronic EasyPass systems are being introduced and widely accepted by motorists who are switching over from tokens and making the change. Don't single out chip collectors as a scapegoat for a business decision on the part of casinos. Chip collectors have absolutely no bearing on the matter.
