While it seems that tokens will be a thing of the past soon, even places like the Borgata still have coin cups. I have to admit that they are rather scarce but they do exist.
As I mentioned in an earlier post the machines still contain some coinage as a back up if the ticket printer should fail.
You have probably seen some of these tokens offered on the board and on ebay.
I don't recall who it was that posted information regarding the cash out tickets. Thermal printing was just one of the ways that tickets are issued. It seems to be the system of choice at this moment and yes, those will fade.
There was mention of another method perhaps inkjet which would not have this problem
Right now, it seems to me that the casino industry as a whole is switching to coinless. In A/C Bally's started the ball rolling and now Trump is in the process of converting his machines as we speak.
I believe that Bill mentioned something about his favorite games such as Reel em' In etc.
Those games are manufactured by WMS [ Williams Gaming] Unfortunately, their games are not compatible with E-Z pay and will soon disappear.
I don't recall having seen a single game at Borgata.
WMS has however revamped their games which I believe they debuted at the gaming show a week ago. Are the games now compatible with TITO.... That I couldn't tell you.
As far as costs go, It was suggested that perhaps TITO systems would be more expensive. Perhaps, but only the initial cost. When you look at the overall picture NO WAY.
For the sake of repetition.
Think of how long a machine is not in use while waiting for a hand pay.
Think of how many people and machines are involved in collecting, distributing and handling coins
Think of how many jobs will be eliminated as a result.
Think of how much extra coinage sits in the hoppers of these machines. Take a property like the Trump Taj and multiply that by 5000
Then think of other costs like wipes, coin cups etc.
The casinos have hit a jackpot themselves with this system and while the diehards find it difficult to let go, It is the future.
Remember only a few years ago when video slots were introduced? They weren't accepted either. Look now.
As Charlie Kaplan said in his post, he wasn't affected since he doesn't collect tokens.
I don't either and while I feel for the Token collectors, they and perhaps a handful of little old blue haired ladies are among the few that don't welcome the change.
