Ron, CT and Co.,
I, too, was one of the ones who also paid more than I should have for some sets of these. I just showed James Campiglia my Gold Dust Chips in particular at the Reno show Saturday. He shared the info with me that there were some that came out and said no one ever knows who or where some may be with these or any chips.
I have the $100 and the $25 listed on my site www.RareChips.com in "Rare chips over $100". Upon our return last night we took down the prices even farther below the NEW TCR#9 reduced values.
The $5 is in "Rare CHips under $100" and we just discounted that below the new reduced TCR#9 values as well.
FYI, you were looking at TCR#8 values but you should have the new TCR#9 values to know what the new TCR #9 has. To our "joy" they downgraded the $100 chip from Z2($1,100+) to S ($300+) because of these finds. They downgraded the $25 from V(450+) to N($125+) and the $5 from M($100+) to I($40+). This means the set was valued in TCR#8 at $1,650+ and now is down to only $465+ in TCR#9. I think that may be high as well and have priced ours even lower.
After what James said and considering TCR #9 has seemingly taken into consideration the "box found" and marked these down so dramatically, I believe $300+/- for the set is in line. FYI, our $100 chip is in absolutely mint condition versus the VGD value in TCR#9 and we offer a 7 day money back guarantee on any web purchases, no questions asked!
Let me know as we are open to your input. Thanks to James for sharing his insight and giving me the "good news" about the recent find of these chips. Although it hurts our purse strings the truth is what we all need to hear so we are educated and can help prevent others from being beaten at chipping. It is a great hobby albiet a few caveats.
