Jim,
The year the Dodgers came to California they were the league doormat. But the only team whose number the Dodgers seemed to have was the Braves. They gave the Braves fits, much to the Dodger fans' delight.
I used to to to the Dodger games in the LA Colosseum. Left field was very short, so they had a very high screen out there to prevent too many home runs. At that time they had a player named Wally Moon who was able to lift quite a few balls over that "Chinese Pagoda," and, of course, the home runs were known as "Moon Shots." Their left fielder was Don Demeter, an average or less hitter, but a very gung-ho fielder. I saw him climb that screen a number of times chasing fly balls, sometimes successfully. For me, those were "the days."
