The other day Jane Voller made a post entitled "I Hate ". In this post she noted that she had been sniped on two auctions, one of which was for a Tropicana 50-cent small crown pie chip.
I took a look at the auction and found that it was listed in the "Tropicana" subcategory and not the "other" category. I scour the "other" category on a daily basis and never bother with the subcategory listings, and this was the first I'd heard of this particular auction and I'll bet that's true of most of us.
To the point, though, Jane had bid $50.01 (I believe) and the chip wound up selling for $51.01. The previous sale for this chip was for $493.01, which is a lot closer to the "value" of the chip. I believe that if this chip had been listed in the "other" category, a similar sale would have been achieved. I can guarantee that the price would have been at least $250 This is the danger of the subcategories... an uneducated seller might think that they are getting the views that will only be found in the "main" category (which in this case is now another subcategory!!!) The way has this set up now is dangerous.
