Reminds me of the Lonesome Dove book/TV series by Larry McMurtry. I may not have this precise but one of the female charcters found out that one of the male characters has lied to her. They refer to a man having sex with a woman as a "poke." Upon being accused of lying he replies something like a man who wouldn't lie to get a poke don't want a poke very bad. I would use the same analogy about wanting to go to the convention. I especially would use this analogy after attending my first convention this year! Charlie.
