Hi Will,
I know what you mean about not being able to keep interest in a regular home poker game. A buddy of mine hosts a regular hold-em game every other week and it seems lately we're shorthanded quite often. Probably will pick-up once winter hits.
I used to host tournaments at my house when I worked for a large firm and I had lots of acquantices to invite. Now since I work for a small small company, my pool of invitees is next to nill. As a result, I don't host any games because I don't want a house full of people I don't know.
My fear would be that once I started inviting total strangers to a poker game and running tournaments, the law might become very interested in what's going on.
My only advice would be to get some expert advice on how much trouble you might be getting yourself into. I'm sure every state handles it differently and sounds like Florida might be stricter than others.
Here in the Kansas City area, a game was busted up and it was in our local news and in the papers. Shown below is a small piece from the Kansas City Star. (You can go to KCStar.com and do a search for articles older than 7 days and find it).
Good luck! I hope I'm not reading about you one day!!!
