2,000 in one day, of an Average chip? Are there that many collectors to supply?
While I understand new issue services, and dealers and collectors (one for yourself, one for a friend and one to trade, or get five for the future) and other ways chips might be picked up, 2,000 and they are all gone in one day? That's 400 people picking up 5 chips each.
You know I agree with you about Rare and scarce Archie. And 1,000 issue is about average, considering the times, maybe slightly better than average, average would be 2,000 chips.
Still the final conclusion, that demand, selling price and rarity are not tied together.
I can have a one of a kind work of art (mine for example? ) and the price would be nearly nothing. An Ansel Adams photographic print, which he made 100 copies can go for hundreds.
A chip issued at 2,000 is not rare, but might have a false and inflated demand, thus the price is inflated. A Four Queens issue at 500 chips, with not much interest or demand, will bring average prices.
If the argument is that it's Las Vegas, it falls flat at Downtown with some 500 issues that are "uncommon" at best, and can be found with ease for low prices. While it seems anything from Hard ROck, becomes a collectible, even if it's "common"
Anyway, with all the discussion, it's petty easy to conclude, ANYTHING that is made by the thousands, is not rare.
