"When a casino issues 1,000 or 2,000 of something and it sells out in a day, there's a sign that something is wrong. Someone is grabbing them up in stacks, because they want to re-sell for a profit.
Many "collectors" (and chip dealers) purchase stacks of chips at new releases for re-sale or trading purposes ... myself included. My only objection is those who then hype their limited offerings on ebay as being "rare" are not being honest with themselves... much less with their potential customers. When this happens, the result is that it diminishes one's own personal credibility, when everybody else who was purchasing chips that day at the casino knows exactly what happened... and there are no secrets that are going to be be kept on thechipboard.com. So my question continues to be; why do sellers try to scam an extra buck or two by overuse of the most misleading description on ebay ... "RARE"?
If ebay sellers (collectors and dealers alike) have stacks of a particular chip issued in the thousands on a given day that was quickly sold out ... does not automatically make the common chip "Rare" by virtue of its sell-out.
