I've been a collector my whole life...
Rocks, stamps, coins, seashells and trading cards, all years ago.

Currently... fantasy art, childrens books, Humpty Dumpty (not any more), Halloween stuff, Chryster building replicas and many other smaller collections too numerous to mention.

I think there's probably a gene that hasn't been identified yet. I'm a 3rd generation collector in my family.
