The Foxwoods name I believe is based on the Mashantucket Pequot tribal symbol which is a fox.

The Mohegan Sun name is an amalgam of the Mohegan Indian tribe's name and Sun International (Now called Kernzer International) who was the developer/builder and former managing partner of the Mohegan Sun resort. I seem to recall that most resort properties that were/are owned by Sun International with the exception of Paradise Island (Bahamas) and Resorts International (Atlantic City) used the Sun name somewhere in their resort's name.
