I have a business (or something) account and they take a chunk out of everything that comes in (including shipping). I keep the account upgraded because I sell on Ebay and some of the auction benefits are convenient for buyers.
So - I have the "Might-as-well-give-them-and-Ebay-the chip-and-let-them-sell it" account and let's look at a transaction I did this morning...
I sold $10 in chips @ face = $10.00
Charged $2 shipping (there were 10 chips) @ $2.00 = $12.00
PayPal took .65 - leaving me $11.35
Deduct $10 for the chips - which leaves $1.35
Actual shippping was $1.52, which put me @ - .17 cents
And there's no sense at this point to factor in the 15c - 25c for the bubble envelope.
I like Pay Pal - as a buyer AND seller
But if the sale is small (under $5) or "chips @ face" + reasonable shipping, I'll usually ask the buyer to just "send me a check this time... PLEASE."
Note to the buyer: DON'T SAY A THING. THIS WAS MY CHOICE. PayPal is quick, easy and my right to use or refuse. I wanted to replenish my funds in acct so was encouraging PP transactions
Am just showing Will exactly WHY some people - myself included - prefer not to use it for some/ all/ many "even money" transactions)
By the way - here's Wyatt and I in our "MOTHER-REQUIRED BLUE DENIM SHIRTS" for the Texas "Hoe-down" (Aug 2003)
Some of you know what I'm talking about
