I believe that research is a key when you are buying whether the price is stated or not.
I do that now even though I am only in the market for current chips and pricing for them is pretty much a no brainer.
Check ebay and other auctions for what the item has sold for recently
If you have a pricing book check to see what it says the value of the chip is. In this case no book so you have to lean towards auction prices.
Determine what the face value is for that particular chip. Adjust for inflation to get today's face value.
Make adjustments for the condition of the item.
Determine the how much you want the chip. That goes back to what Vic stated about an item is worth is only what someone is willing to pay for it.
