In Dave's site he list some of the bars and cafes in Covington Ky. Back in the 1930s and 40s just about all the bars had beer tokens. These were won playing dice games at the bar. You would buy in for a quarter and "shake the box". If you rolled a winning total you would be paid off in usually a dollars worth of tokens , each good for a beer. And like casino chips they were only good in that cafe. This kept the customer coming back. All of the tokens shown here were valued at 5 cents on the back, the price of a beer back then.
