This happened in 1893. Cards of the photo were printed later. On right at the end is the International Hotel which is still there. A fire station with bell tower just before it.
Austin was nearly the size of Virginia City in the late 1860's & was one of our larger mining producers.
Many Nevada towns were wiped out by floods & fires. Caliente had a bad flood in 1910 but rebuilt what was lost. Downtown Rawhide was demolished by fire in 1908. Never to be rebuilt. This was one of Nevada's larger mining camps in competition with Goldfield for size & wealth.
Flash floods in Nevada do happen. Be careful traveling around & watch out for those huge jackrabbits!
