Never thought I'd see any kind of chip-related post on this board to which I might really have an intelligent response, but...
This is a subject near and dear to my heart--it may seem profane is these hallowed precincts, but I like playing poker with these things, too. You might balk just a tad, though, before dropping a couple hundred dollars to upgrade your home game from the plastic cheapos; I know I would. I bought some "clay" chips on ebay that were definately a leap up from plastic and set me back less than a dime apiece including a decent storage case. I host a tournament-style game once a month for 8 to 10 players that allows multiple buy-ins. 300 hundred chips wouldn't come close to being enough. I've been able to do nicely with 900 in four colors and I got the whole shebang for under $100 including the freight.
Sadly, since dropping into this site I've started yearning for some much nicer chips for my regular "ring" style game. I'm currently wrestling with my urge to buy a couple hundred monogramed mono-color tophat & canes (they'll set me back almost $200). I'm sure the next tourney win or one nice night at the ring and that money's on the way to Nevada, though.
Happy hunting, Patty...it's half the fun.
