My concern:

It doesn't take a whole lot of water to seep between the protective film (over the litho inlay) and the mold to cause it to pop; especially on an older chip. Then, once the cleaning casuses the damage... wha next -- call in the repairman to "restore" the chip...?

Seen below is a piece of tape on a very rare plaque from the Caro Collection. If the curator of Maison Caro was able to live with the tape... so can I.
