I don't know about "Rat Urine" but in this part of the country feces and urine from the "deer mouse" seems to be the culprit. I am kind of tuned into this as we had a fellow worker on Union Pacific property where I work that died on "hanta virus." It has been difficult to nail down where he contracted it from. Prior to going on vacation he had cleaned out a UP storage shed, but then he camped in the Black Hills of South Dakota on vacation. Deer mice are prevalent in both places. It is a very real threat. However, if you just wipe off the top of the can you are OK...Even if you didn't you still probably are. It has to be inhaled, then starts a pneumonia like effect. Floods the lungs with fluid.

The Center for Disease Control has the best info about it. I think you can just do CDC as a search and then put in "hanta virus"...it will give you all the real details.
