Your argument may, in general, be sound (albeit, it is difficult to reconcile the claim that the system "isn't supposed to work this way" with the acknowledgement that there is nothing inherently wrong with "boycotting" something), but the underlying premise on which you apply it to this siutation is simply mistaken.
