In April 2002 we discovered some of the chips (mostly all in very poor condition). This is from my auction of the chips:
"DESCRIPTION: Three crest and seal chips as shown. Apparently there once was a partnership which terminated. The name “Willie Green” appears on the bottom of the chip. The name “Jack Shivel” was scraped off of the top of every chip but one, which survives…… …… …….. We do not know the history of these chips or where they were used. The Gaming Table lists an Alcazar Card Room, 842 4th Ave, San Diego CA (1952 – closed now). (???) …. ….
On the internet I found a technology company of that name, so I asked the meaning of the word and got this reply: “this is what alcazar means:
"Alcázar. Word of Arabic origin (Al-Qasar) that means "Fortress". In
Spain, it is usually used to name castles with residential function.
Examples: the "Alcázares" of Segovia, Toledo or Ciudad Rodrigo; "Los Reales Alcázares" of Sevilla. It is also used to name royal residences, even if they are not fortified. The word appears in the names of some towns, as "Alcázar de San Juan" or "Alcazarén" (lit. "Two castles")" "
