John B, Allan M: "MAK" revisited

Back in January of 2000 I asked about the "MAK" chip. Somewhere in the conversation John mentioned that he didn't think it was a true crest and seal. I mentioned that it was stated as such by Allan Myers in his Chequers article. Allan mentioned that the chip was in the USPC records (and therefore a true crest and seal).

I'm not sure if this is old news but the "MAK" chip John and Allan were referring to is not in the USPC records. The ringed MAK in the scan below is the one in the records. The unringed, smaller inlayed chip was made by the Burt company. This is a fairly common chip. This is also the chip that has a lifting inlay. The USPC ringed chip is extremely rare. I don't know anyone else that has the chip.

Evidently, the Burt chip was a reorder. USPC stopped making chips in the mid 1940's. Burt has duplicated many USPC c&s (MAK, Dallas CC, Balenese Room, DAC, Wallace Corner, Durkin & Ulrich and several BPOEs). Examples are on my website.

BTW, do we still agree that the initials are MAK?
