Re: My very different view of Borgata
In Response To: Re: Back from AC ()

"The table games to slots ratio will probably change even further leaning towards slots."

I personally believe that Borgata is way too overloaded with slots. With all the heavy crowds in attendance since their opening ... rows upon rows upon rows of slots remained unoccupied.... while players are routinely lined up for table games with no seats available at $15 and $25 and $100 minimums. If Borgata couldn't fill these slots during their opening days ... I doubt if they will sustain them a few months from now.

"Every casino in A/C favors slots."
That's true Bob, but I belive Borgata has way overdone it.

"While roaming around the Sands, you might have noticed that their table games have become virtually non- existant."
Not any more, Bob.

"This has hurt them severly and though slots are more profitable, they have lost a lot of their player base.
It is my understanding that they are in the process of putting some tables back in.
"

Bob; When was the last time you visited the casino floor at Sands? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the new changes at Sands last Sunday. A fairly large bar and lounge at the bottom of the escalator on the casino floor called "Swingers" ... with a dozen suspended flat screen tv's and quite a few paying customers seated at the bar ... and lots of new additional table games nearby have already replaced the table games that were previously removed.

"As far as the location of the Borgata, once again in my opinion it should proove interesting when the fascination of a new property wears off and the summer crowds are gone will they retain their player base?
Atlantic City has always suffered from 2 problems, weather and no real expansion room.
"

Expansion room? There are 79 additional acres surrounding Borgata for future expansion. Have you seen the size of Borgata's parking lot and two parking garages? I wouldn't be surprised to see two more new casinos built there. 25 years of A.C. casino weather history has not stopped Boyd Gaming from investing 1 Billion dollars in Borgata.

"I wanted to also mention though I saw a sign in the Borgata that directed people towards a bus ramp. It is my understanding that at least at present they do not have facilities for day bus trippers. The majority of visitors come by bus stay only a few hours and spend small amounts of money. We all know that pennies make dollars but again will the Borgata survive the winters without this crowd?"

Bob; The "bus ramp" is for the crowded Jitney's which bring loads of people from the Boardwalk to Borgata's front door for a mere $1.50.

"You might have noted that Borgata is built on a land fill... Someone suggested an advertising slogan... Borgata... Its not a dump anymore."

What a slam that is. Borgata has spent tens of millions of dollars remediating the property, capping the landfill, bringin in new fresh fill and planting hundreds of mature evergreen trees, and thousands of shrubs, plantings and attractive lighting in a park-like setting. There is no indication of the site being a former landfill/dump. In fact, quite the opposite is true. It looks like those hubndreds and hundreds of Colorado Blue Spruce trees around the property have been there for 50 years, not a mere six months.

"The problem I see that might hurt the Borgata even more is its isolation from every other casino. If you aren't going to the Borgata, to use an old phrase, you can't get there from here.
The Borgata sits by itself removed from the Boardwalk, not really in the Marina and not connected to any other property sitting in isolation on a land fill.
"

Bob; Borgata is no more isolated than the other two casinos in the marina district. One has to go right past Borgata in order to get to Trump Marina and to Harrah's. In fact there is a brand new Expressway ramp that has been constructed taking people from the Atlantic City Expressway tunnel/connector directly to Borgata. I don't agree with your description of "isolation". Donald Trump's criticism was that the state built a driveway right to Borgata. While not physically connected to the other two casinos... one can take a long walk from one casino to the other ... just like Harrah's and Trump Marina are not physically connected but are walkable.

Now, if we can only get Borgata to begin issuing LE chips! grin
