Re: Who will field the complaints?
In Response To: Who will field the complaints? ()

A few weeks ago there was a thread regarding a meeting that our club officers had with the Nevada Gaming Commission.I was wondering if there are any further developments

The short answer is no. The initial meeting took place less than 60 days ago and the new Board has been in office less than two weeks. The meeting did produce a “clarification” that allowed the Trop chip to get approved.

We seem to complain about things like these constantly yet it was suggested we shouldn't complain to the Nevada Gaming Commission

It is strongly suggested again that members do not complain to the Gaming Control Board or it’s agents, about casino chip distribution policies, numbers of chips produced or re-issues. Complain directly to the casino management or to the parent company at the corporate level. The only time one should contact the GCB is if you feel you have been cheated at a casino game or the casino refuses to cash your legitimate chips.

It also appears these so called abuses continue. Recently someone stated that they were unable to buy the new Station Casino Hooters chips as they were being sold to dealers on Thursday and not available to the public until Saturday. Mind you I have no problem with profit, dealers or business I do however have a problem with a double standard so my question is WHO DO WE COMPLAIN TO?

Robert, in the cases you cited, these are business practices/procedures the casino chooses to employ to distribute or order their chips. As a Club, we can open a dialogue with the particular casino and express our concerns on behalf of our membership. But, as a business, they have every right to operate as they see fit, as long as it is within the law and the actions you described are not unlawful. We may not like them, but they do what they feel in is their best interest. Just like you and I do in our own companies. If there are enough customer complaints to the right people at THE CASINO, you might see some change. Call the casino manager, then the GM of the property. If you get no satisfaction, call the corporate office and ask to speak to the President. Follow up with a letter, then if you get no satisfaction there, call your broker and buy 10 shares of Station stock. Show up at the next stockholders meeting and get up during the Q & A session and tell the Board and the other stockholders how poorly you felt you were treated at “Sunset Station.” Radical? Yes. Time consuming? Depends on how strongly you feel about it! Effective? Oh yes!

Now that officers of the club have established a dialogue with gaming, is there anything in the works where we can take our complaints to our BOD and then have them take up issues of merit with the Gaming Board?

There is nothing “officially” in place, but if anyone wants to send me a letter concerning any issue (including this), please do and it will be acted on accordingly. We will be actively working to get the current “interpretation” concerning “chip collecting” chips reversed. This may not happen next week or next month, but is an ongoing effort by the Club.

It seems to me, that when gaming refused to authorize the issuance of our annual club chips it was akin to kicking the dog, WE as a group obviously being the dog.
Maybe they just don't want to deal with complaints, Was this retaliation on their part?

Robert, you’re an intelligent individual and I think you can answer you own question here! vbg

If in fact chips are regarded as gaming equipment then why do they even allow commemorative chips? I don't think the gaming board is that naive that they believe all these chips will stay in the casino's anymore than all house chips, tokens, roulettes or dice.

Your statement answers your question! vbg I was not at the meeting in May with the GCB and this is only my personal opinion. But, if the complaints and the hassles continue in regards to commeratives, there may come a day when the “for gaming purposes only” edict is applied to the fullest extent and ALL Limited Edition chips and commeratives will cease. Because in the grand scheme of things, the revenue stream from these chips to the casinos is a fraction of a fraction of 1% of their bottom line. THAT will not be good for the Club or the hobby.

It appears to me we have several double standards here.

OK. Now what? vbg

I feel that if the club establishes a way for its members to deal with these issues, fine.
I otherwise feel that where warranted, its is the right of everyone to complain. As it is apparent none of these problems are going away by sticking our heads in the sand

I don’t think anyone on the BOD is sticking their head in the sand. The previous BOD was able to get a meeting with the GCB agents, which had never been done before, that's not ignoring the problem. You’re correct in everyone has a right to complain. But, again, it only hurts our overall case if individual members continually complain to the Gaming Control Board or it's agents. Remember the dog you spoke of? vbg I do not agree with the interpretation of the “for gaming purposes only” rule in relation to LE chips or commeratives, especially in regard to the Club logo and our convention chip. We will work on trying to reverse this stance, but will do so in a reasoned, concerted, professional effort on behalf of the Club members. I hope this answers your question.
