When I got out of the Army in 1962 Harrah's had a club on both sides of Highway 50 at the stateline - the old Country Club property on the South side of the highway and the old George's Gateway property on the North - or Lake - side of the highway. They were both called Harrah's and both used the same chips. The one on the Lake side was right next to Harvey's and did indeed close in the winter. There were a lot of nickel slots over there and my wife and I played there frequently during the summer months. I would be almost certain that the terms "Lake" and "Thrifty" were internal terms used to distinguish it from the larger casino on the south side of the street.
