You're right about the two-color chip and I should have pointed that out as the purpose of COTD is to present chips to folks that may not have seen them before. Luckily for the hobby, we keep getting new folks here on Greg's board all the time! Not to many reversable color chips around, the Four Queens Win-cards are the only ones I can think of offhand.
As for the matches, I can't date them. Don Lueders was surprised to find a dated front-strike matchbook that must have been manufactured after the conventionaly accepted cutoff date for frontstrikers. Additional expert guidance would be helpful to all. When did the Mommy-State start protecting those who can't light matches without peril?
The Horseshoe , IMO, did indeed look like the image on the matchbook in '76. 1977 saw a $1,000,000 remodel which may have produced the multi-lighted horseshoe shaped facade in place now. Horseshoe Factoid: Harold S. Smith Sr. used to roam around his 7 story casino (Uuh, Harolds Club) when he would get one of his "hunches". He would go across the street to the Horseshoe where his friend Ernie Einstoss would raise the limits at the crap tables so's Harold could indulge his "lucky feeling". Although the Horseshoe went bust under a number of owners, Ernie never recorded a bankrupcy after one of Harold S. Smith Sr.'s visits.
