Jim-
I'm approaching the two year mark since I moved from New York and could not be happier with the decision. Of course I convinved the bosses for a transfeer, but by wife (an accountant) found her first job over the phone. When that company went under (a national luggage compay suffering from the downturn int he travel biz, she found another at better pay immediately and never missed a day of work. So yes, I'd say there are jobs out here. With the town growing as fast as it is, new businesses are opening every day. Salaries are generally lower than they were in New York, but without State or local income tax, and factoring cost of living, it's a draw.
The town is growing fast, and I can see why old-timers aren't happy about it. But if you're going to get in, every day is a missed opportunity. If I'd have bought my house the moment I moved out here, it would have been at least 20% less than what I paid for it in March. The same house around the corner from mine now has an asking price of 10% more than I paid for mine in March, and they'll probably get it. Average property values are going up FAST FAST FAST! Of course you'll have to get used to living on top of your neighbors. Even 3,500 sf homes have absolutely no land.
As for the traffic, anyone who complains has obviously never lived int eh Northeast. As for schools -- they definitely are having problems finding teachers, so that's a concern. On the other hand, the schools themselves are all brand new.
Weather is a matter of taste. I'll take 110 in Vegas over 85 in New York City any day. More inportantly, I can't imagine that I used to live somewhere where it would rain for days on end! What was I thinking.
COme on out, join the crowd! I'll buy you a drink and a lap dance as soon as I can find the time to buy myself one.
