Here's more info...

Hi Jim,

Everyone's correct, but here's some more info. Once you get past the come out roll, the casino has the advantage on the pass line bets. Therefore as Steve pointed out the casino will let you make ANY wager on the dice game that is to their mathamatical favor.

Let your dealer know and you can place the point by heeling your bet on the outside boundry of the pass line. An advantage of placing it is that you can pick it up at any given time. You should notify the dealer that this is what you are doing so that you don't get accused of picking up a line bet. If you bet the pass line and get a single roll (even if you placed it after the point was established) your bet is now in escrow until a decision (pass/don't pass) is made.

Nobody mentioned a "buy" bet. If the point is 4 or 10 and you are betting at least $20 (or $5 on a 25¢ game) you're better off buying the point than placing it. Here's how it works. You pay a 5% commission up front (called the "vig") but then you get true odds if your bet wins. For example if you buy the 4 for $20 and pay a $1 vig your $20 bet will win you (true) 2-1 odds of $40.00. So you invested $21 to win $40. Had you placed the number for $20, you would have won $36 (9-5, slightly less than true odds... the house's advantage). After your buy bet wins you can then either bring it down (return your initial bet to your rack) or leave it and pay another $1 vig. Just like a place bet you can pick it up at any time. Your vig is returned if you wish to remove it (before a 7 appears of course). Should a 7 appear first than your bet and vig will be kindly removed for you grin.

Anything I'm forgetting Josh, Bennie & Steve Z? What is it with ex-dice dealers becoming chip dealers anyway grin?

Even though I haven't dealt the game since '96 and rarely play it, I still think it's the greatest game on Earth!
