Pam says; ...."one possibility might be an extra "goodie" in the bag for those who vote in the OTY contest?"
The "extra goodie in the bag" is the fact that there IS an annual Chip Of The Year/Token Of The Year/Silver Strike Of The Year/Slot Card Of The Year contest at all.
Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until we lose it. Right now, 172 judges (those who sent in a nomination) are going to decide for 2800 club members what chips, tokens, silver strikes and slot cards issued during the year 2002 will be the final OTY winners. One has to assume that the rest of the members don't care one way or the other ... just like those who didn't send in their ballots for club officers elections didn't care either. I would bet that many of the same names are missing from both lists.
Voting on ANY issue has never been a popular activity in this club. Just look at the recent election return statistics ... which have nothing to do with whether one collects LEs, C&S, older obsolete classics, Silver Strikes, slot cards, swizzle sticks, or whatever.
Support and Participation are the key ingredients of any and every club activity.
